Name:Ajewen Cheris
Name: Ajewen Cheris, though official records still list her as Kel Cheris. May also go by Dzannis Paral or Shuos Jedao.
Rank: various.
Height: comparatively short.
Affiliation: Pyrehawk Enclave.
Location: unknown.

Born in a minority culture on a backwater planet, Cheris joined the Kel military faction and honed her life for service to the hexarchate, the vast galaxy-spanning polity which was the only reality most of its citizens had ever known. When her mathematical genius drove her to the edge of calendrical heresy, showing her ways to save her infantry company by manipulating the calendrical mechanics vital to the hexarchate's culture and technology, Cheris was offered a chance at redemption: an assault on an impregnable space fortress, promising glory for those who might recapture it and stem the tide of calendrical rot. To win the assignment, she was anchored to the hexarchate's most dangerous and notorious weapon, the revenant of the murderous traitor general Shuos Jedao. His tactical genius and experience allowed Cheris, brevetted to general on his behalf, to lead a warmoth swarm in a successful siege of the Fortress, retaking it at the hexarchate's usual enormous cost of life on both sides. However, her grasp of calendrical mechanics displeased the hexarchate -- particularly the narcissistic immortal revenant of the hexarch who had developed the high calendar and all its associated horrors nine hundred years earlier. Cheris, barely surviving the ensuing destruction, consumed the memories Jedao left behind and fled the disaster with his unspoken mission burning in her heart.

Then, with his tactical expertise and her own prodigious mathematical abilities, she broke the high calendar.

Over the next nine years, with the help of the sapient machine intelligences unrecognized by most of the hexarchate's citizens, Cheris moved in secret through the chaotic clash between parts of the hexarchate which had adopted her new calendar (designed to abolish ritual torture of heretics) and adherents to the high calendar in its traditional form, hunting the elusive immortal hexarch, who could not be allowed to survive and restore the old regime. Afterward, with the realm finally united under the new calendar, she retired to a small colony planet where the remnants of her ethnic community had been resettled, there spending two years incognito as a math teacher before circumstances finally allowed her to divest herself of Jedao's memories... and left her, once again, on the run with vast systemic injustices to correct.

[[Ajewen Cheris belongs to Yoon Ha Lee and his Machineries of Empire series. Doona Bae, her PB for this account, belongs to herself!]]
